It's not every day that a close friend turns 40!! So....along with Jackie's husband, a few of her friends and I cooked up a surprise party. Her birthday falls just two days before Christmas, so we settled on the evening of the 21st.
To throw her off any suspicions that 'the gals' might be involved, we took her out to lunch earlier in the week. We asked just enough questions to not give any secrets away.
The plan was for Kevin and Jackie to bring their kids to Brenda's and then go on a special date. Not known to Jackie, there were 30 people hiding behind furniture and in the balcony ready to jump out at just the right time. She insists that we really did surprise her!

Teresa shared a special treat with Jackie - 40 bags of 40 things -from candy to medicine to hunting supplies.
There were a TON of kids, but they all managed to have a good time with nothing getting broke.

She blew out all 40 candles with very little help.
When Kevin went to pick up the cake, he asked the lady at the bakery if she would write Happy Birthday Jackie. Her response, "I don't write letters very well." Apparently this is no longer a job requirement for cake decorators!!
But....the decorating certainly did not affect the taste. Timothy's chocolate smile says it all!!
Jackie loves games that involve drawing so we set up a "Boys vs. Girls" challenge of Pictionary. Yep, the girls whooped the boys! Here is Blake drawing for the boys and Melissa guessing correctly for the girls team.
